FAQ
![]() FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Basic InformationSo what's the deal with this game, anyway? The long story short is that it's a short term PSL, with a definitive beginning and end, that takes elements from Type-Moon's Nasuverse - Fate/Stay Night in particular. Our goal is to have an even blend of SOL and PvE and PvP, but how these ratios skew depends on you! How is that going to work? Glad you asked! Gameplay will proceed according to a calendar which may be perused at your own leisure here, but the basic rundown is simple: The early period of the game’s run (the first two to three weeks. This is negotiable) will be devoted to the summoning process for Masters in the upcoming war, and bonding with the subsequently acquired Servants (as well as other Masters and anyone else), with some events thrown in by us for your fun or convenience. SOL with occasional PvE if desired, PvP fine but not a main focus. How will communication be handled? The year is a highly AU'd 20xx, so while face to face communication is ideal, there's no shortage of ways to talk to people. You can make posts walking up to people individually, or thread phonecalls, or text messages, or use LINE or emails or maybe you and your allied Master have a Discord channel themselves. It's ok. My character is super aggressive! What if I want to start conflicts early? That's just as well. Remember, how the ratios of this game skew is dependent on you. What if my character is like, the exact opposite of that? It's cool, hang out at the church. I'm sure it's safe. Do I have to play someone participating in the Grail War? Absolutely not! If you don't want to play a Master or Servant, we totally welcome all random magi, churchpeople, folks off the street, students, vampires, whatever. Have a ball. But what if no one fights? Don't worry about it. Really though, what if this ends up in a Great Holy Grail War scenario? That depends on the number of players, but like I said, don't worry about it. How many characters can I play? As many as you want! Just keep the game's capacity in mind, but we trust you guys. Well, ok. What kinds of characters can I play? Any and all! AU your character into the setting! Make an OC just for the setting! Let us drag them in kicking and screaming into the setting! Characters from Fate or other Nasuverse properties are welcome under the same auspices. It's all good. Wait what It's the good old jamjar option. Don’t want to AU? Not interested in an OC? The Brewster Assembly is here for you! So what's this about copies and new bodies? Out of concern that our own universe might explode with too many foreign elements introduced, containers capable of taking on every quality of your character’s body were commissioned for the purpose of this round of experimentation. Please be careful with them, they were very expensive. Do they have joints uh That's a lot of variety, though. What does this mean for the powercap? Superhuman or superpowered characters that choose the jamjar option operate at a lesser capacity due to being placed in puppet bodies. What “lesser” means is up to you personally, but the basic thing is this: For everybody, the long and short of it is that we trust you all to work things out among each other. No powergaming, no infomoding, this isn’t a dick measuring contest. We’re all here to have fun. Anyone found in violation of this rule gets stuck in the baby cube. What happens when my character dies? Uh, you die. That character is removed from play. But it’s not like no one has ever come back from that in this setting, so if you’re interested in resuming play after dying, please let us know and we will work with you! By applying to this game, you must accept the possibility that your character may be killed in a fight or through other means. They cannot come back under most circumstances! It will result in the character being removed from play! This is especially true for Master or Servant characters! Hey, so I'm interested! How do I app? Over here; if you mean for your character to have some influence or rank at a major institution, like the church or clocktower, we kind of need to know about it. Not so much as a permission thing, but so we can plot around that! Edit 6/2/2018: We thank you for your interest, but we will be closing secondary invites (friends of friends) as well as disallowing entry to anyone who has not been previously been permitted. All previous invitations will be honoured. This may change in the future, but to be perfectly transparent, it is not likely to, as we need to keep the game a manageable size to deliver the best experience we possibly can. Once again, thank you. I think my friend(s) might enjoy this! Okay, buckle up. This game--"""game"""--is meant to be a chill project. If you want to tell a friend about it, by all means, but we reserve the right to deny them on any grounds, straight up. We made this space for our friends and to have fun. If someone is a noted problem, or if we simply do not get on with them, they will not be permitted. Modding for people you don't like is pretty draining and this is not going to be a job, nor will it be an uncomfortable atmosphere for mods or players alike if we can help it. I like the sound of that but I am still having a problem with a player... Hey, it happens! And if it does, if you can't work something out on your own, please come to us. Again, we made this space for our friends and if you're not having fun, we're not having fun, but even if you're not as close to us personally, everyone gets a fair shake. We'll absolutely hear you out and do our best to work towards a solution, so please don't worry about that. We both call out shit as we see it, and many can attest to that. Nasuverse CliffnotesFor further information on mechanics within the setting and explanations of terminology, please refer to the Setting FAQ. For a rundown on the Holy Grail War and Servants that goes beyond the scope of these cliffnotes, go here. Hold on, I'm confused. What's a Holy Grail War? This is a little easier to divulge. The Holy Grail War is a competition to decide who gains ownership of the Holy Grail, a relic that grants wishes. Participants, called Masters (usually magic users but not always!) summon Servants to fight alongside them as familiars until only one pair is left standing. That pair receives the Holy Grail. What is a Servant? Servants are Heroic Spirits summoned by Masters with the assistance of the Holy Grail for the purposes of the Holy Grail War. That is to say that they're basically just ghosts - the ghosts of figures from history, folklore, and mythology who, for good or ill, made such a great impact on the world they've been recorded in its history forever. A Servant receives energy from its Master (either naturally or through bodily fluids or through eating people's souls. there are many avenues when you are a hungry magic ghost), and in exchange the Master is given three Command Seals on their hand, each of which represents a binding order they can enact. So what is a Great Holy Grail War? There are typically 7 participants in a Grail War. If all seven choose not to fight each other, the Grail will choose seven additional Masters and seven additional Servants, and then summon a fifteenth Servant, Ruler, to neutrally arbitrate the conflict. We don't plan on limiting our numbers as far as Masters and Servants are concerned - if we get 8 pairs, that's totally acceptable, no one will fuss if we happen to have two Sabers in one war, odder things have happened - but if we just so happen to end up with 14 pairs, we do have accommodations for that planned out! I want to summon a Ruler/Avenger/etc! While it's not explicitly allowed under this ruleset, again, weirder things have happened, so like. Go for it, but please keep some semblance of a regular:irregular class ratio in your head, like, I'm not saying we can't have a whole-ass Sunday school in this war I'm just saying not to make it weird. 2. I'm pretty sure that's just a reinforcement thing! You direct magic energy to the bodypart in order to increase its strength, basically. You can also do this by drawing runes, but I think that was how the Rin-Luvia fight went.
3. Hiyori is canonically spiritually sensitive, isn't she? With the caveat that I'm not super canon familiar I think giving her Pure Eyes that allow her to perceive spirits would make sense! There are a lot of different types of those, so I'll make sure to include a more detailed rundown in the setting FAQ, but for your convenience here's the bit just about spirits of the dead:
- Souls of dead people, called wraiths, linger in the world of the living due to grudges, regrets, and other such unfinished business, so they tend to haunt places or items or people that are related to those things. Because they're spirits, it's difficult for them to interact with the physical world directly, so they have to bring physical objects under their dominion via possession or similar means to do so. In general, their existences are ephemeral and they tend to disappear after a while, but this is variable - the very first wraith (that we know of) probably still has about 200 years left in him. They're generally shapeless, and can eat the minds and souls of people for nourishment.
- There are also apparitions, which are closer to ghosts as we tend to think of them; fragments of a soul that's already moved on that have coalesced into a shape, with no thoughts except for the desire to live, or memories held within a place or an object projected into a shape that functions the same way. They can only be seen by and interact with people who have strong spiritual abilities, and have been known to try possessing people, but it's easy to resist them with a strong will.
- Animal spirits work the same as wraiths, except they're able to hold on to their physical forms.

3. Yes, that's correct. Specifically, she's demonstrated the ability to see Gods, their familiars, whatever it is that Noragami uses as "Gods of Death" (which seem to be some special class unto themselves), wandering spirits and ayakashi: the consolidated grudges/despairs/negativity left over by humans which take animalistic shapes and infect people to drive them to commit suicide, murder, and other serious sins. It seems like at the least she should be able to see/communicate with wraiths and apparitions, if my understanding of the way this translates works.
Would it be permissible for this sight to make it possible to see/sense Servants even after they've abandoned their physical aspects or are attempting to conceal their presence (like presence concealment)?

How does halfsies sound? Her Pure Eyes (which allow her to see spirits of the dead and etc; there is a specific note made about youkai that possess people like kitsune and inugami as being distinct from oni and the like so I'll let you know when I have that info up in the setting FAQ) are able to perceive the presence of a Servant using Presence Concealment so long as the skill is below a certain rank - I'll leave what that rank is to you, but basically you'd just have to get clearance from Servant players OOCly!
That's a lot of words but we're fine with it, is what I mean.
